Wagner College athletes earn academic honors

GRYMES HILL -- The Wagner College football team had an impressive season under head coach Walt Hameline, winning the Northeast Conference (NEC) championship and earning an NCAA Tournament bid in the process.

It was an equally impressive one in the classroom.

The NEC announced its fall Academic Honor Roll (AHR), which consisted of 820 student-athletes with a grade-point-average of 3.20 or better. There were also 206 student-athletes named to the Commissioner?s Honor Roll (CHR) with a 3.75 or better grade-point-average.

The Seahawks led all nine football-playing members with 35 selections on the AHR, including a conference-best nine representatives on the CHR.

In all, Wagner registered a total of 70 athletes from four fall sports, including soccer (18), women?s cross country (11) and men?s cross country (6).

Additionally, 76.1 percent (35 of 46) of the student-athletes involved with soccer and men?s and women?s cross country earned AHR accolades.

Nineteen Wagner student-athletes were recognized on the CHR. ?
